This Keynote Presentation will bring latest insights into the innovative technologies in disease identification. It will discuss the roadmap from Laboratory bench to bedside in the context of evidence based laboratory medicine. Further, it will discuss the impact & role of advances in technology and informatics in the standardization of methodologies (eg tumor marker standardization). Also, it will then mention studies involving interfering substances, limitations and reference ranges along with data interpretation which finally helps in the effective treatment of the patient.

In this talk, recent progress in extraction and diagnostic techniques using FFPE tissue will be discussed. It will also cover novel technologies for rapid and simultaneous analysis of many FFPE patient samples which is crucial for treatment decisions. Finally, it will mention about how data from FFPE tissue based assays complements disease diagnosis and also allows designing of personalized therapeutic regimens.

The Development of Salivary Biomarkers to Detect Systemic Diseases

In this presentation, the speaker will discuss the technology developed for quantifying CRP levels in saliva samples and its use as a biological matrix to detect ischemic heart disease and heart failure. The talk will also mention how by analysis of salivary DNA methylation and miRNA signatures along with identification of tumour suppressor genes, cancers like head and neck cancer, especially oral cavity cancers can be detected. Further, it will discuss about role of (MSP) assay and panel of nine miRNA markers in determining specific methylation events. Finally, it will highlight how saliva is an ideal biological medium to detect both oral and systemic events along with future prospects.

This presentation will discuss about Real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) as a leading edge technology for evaluation of the expression of nucleic acids and how it has become a foremost need in diagnosis and research works. Specificaaly, it will discuss the present study of evaluaton of the sensitivity and specificity of two chemistries of real-time RT-PCR (with the use of fluorescent SYBR Green I dye and specific TaqMan probe) for detection of the matrix and hemagglutinin genes of human influenza A viruses.

This talk would provide explanation of how this technique of quantification could be useful in quantification of a particular substance of interest in a given biological specimen. Use of such a quantification in a couple of applications each for both medical research and diagnosis and the results of these research projects would be presented. The talk would conclude with pointers to the different possibilities of use of TissueQuant for a host of other applications.

Further, it will also discuss use of these biomarkers to develop diagnostic kit for the prediction and/or early diagnosis of Brain TB and also to understand the pathogenesis of disease.

In this Keynote talk, improved methods for accurately diagnosing the infectious pathogens in the presence of beneficial colonizing microbes and characterization of its phenotype will be discussed. Specifically, the speaker will discuss their work on two diagnostic methods. Firstly, application of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy for characterizing P. aeruginosa biofilms will be highlighted followed by presentation on use of peptide arrays printed on glass slides to characterize viral infections (‘chip serology’).

In this Keynote Talk, the role of biomarkers and companion diagnostics (CDX) in enabling shift from empirical medicine to precision medicine (PM) will be discussed. It will mention how PM is expected to provide a rapid acceleration in the development of next-generation pharmacotherapy. In conclusion, the talk will highlight that any treatment decision should rely on a deep understanding of both the disease biology and the mechanism of action of a given drug. Finally, it will discuss how advances in molecular diagnostics has led to the development and inclusion of CDX assays, in a few disease areas, which can provide insight to more rational therapeutic approaches. This ultimately will change how medicine will be practiced and taught in future.
