Small Molecules as Tools for Biological Systems Manipulation

Raman Parkesh, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IMTECH

In recent years, as our understanding of molecular mechanism driving complex biological processes grows, the role of computational medicinal chemistry to generate probes for biomedical applications will continue to expand. Our continuous efforts in this area have led us to develop small molecule to manipulate biological systems.  The first part of my talk will highlight a successful story of design, synthesis, and commercialization of small molecule NED-19, an NAADP antagonist.
The second part of the talk will address our recent efforts in the computational approaches for design and synthesis of small molecule therapeutics for various infectious and RNA mediated diseases. These results will demonstrate how efficient molecular design of small molecules using a combination of computational medicinal chemistry, organic synthesis, and chemical biology will ultimately lead to the development of small molecule therapeutics for unmet medical needs.
