Tristan Thwaites's Biography

Tristan Thwaites, Business Development & Product Specialist

Tristan began his studies at University College London, completing a B.Sc in Biology in 2008. He continued at Imperial College London completing firstly an MRes and then in 2013 a Ph.D in Cell and Molecular Biology under Dr Rey Carabeo.

After a short spell as lab manager at the University of Aberdeen, he began his career at Axol Bioscience in April 2014. As a cell culture specialist, his core role involved deriving human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) using the recent Nobel Prize winning Cellular Reprogramming technology and generating neural stem cells and neurons from the hPSCs. He combined this with his passion for R&D, where he focused much of his energy on the design, development and characterization of Axol’s next-generation range of fully defined neural cell culture products including media and coating reagents.

Having showed great enthusiasm in engaging customers and collaborators in scientific discussion, he decided to leave the lab environment for a new role focused on managing Axol’s relationship with existing and new customers. He now focuses on identifying customer needs, and providing customized solutions based on his deep theoretical and practical knowledge of the Axol product range.
