SELECTBIO Conferences Lab-on-a-Chip & Microfluidics 2019: Companies, Emerging Technologies & Commercialization Track "B"

Eric Cummings's Biography

Eric Cummings, Chief Technical Officer

Dr. Eric Cummings founded LabSmith in 1995 to commercialize high-speed timing equipment he developed as a Caltech graduate student. He then spent seven years as a researcher at Sandia National Labs, where he conceived and verified several foundational microfluidic theories including ideal electrokinesis, streaming dielectrophoresis (DEP), insulator-based DEP, and coherent nonlinear chromatography. LabSmith’s first microfluidic products (the HVS448 high-voltage sequencer and SVM340 microscope) were developed by Dr. Cummings to address specific instrumentation needs for his laboratory research. Dr. Cummings continues to develop products and applications for LabSmith, while also acting as CEO for Maxout Renewables – a solar electronics company he founded to bring down the cost of photovoltaic installations.
