Stefanie Jeffrey, Chief

Dr. Jeffrey received her undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Physics and master’s degree in Chemistry from Harvard University. She did her medical and postgraduate surgical training at the University of California, San Francisco, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. At Stanford, she was Chief of Breast Surgery and Director of the Interdisciplinary Breast Fellowship Program prior to becoming Chief of Surgical Oncology Research. Her laboratory studies tumor cells involved in the metastatic spread of cancer with the aim of improving methods for selecting patient-specific therapies through technology development and patient-derived models for drug sensitivity testing.

Brian Kirby, Associate Professor

Brian J. Kirby currently directs the Micro/Nanofluidics Laboratory in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University, following several years as Senior Member of the Technical Staff in the Microfluidics Department at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, California.  Professor Kirby has received a 2002 R&D Top 100 Invention award for work on microvalves for high pressure-fluid control, a 2004 JD Watson Investigator award for microdevices for protein production and analysis, and a 2006 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) award for nanoscale electrokinetics and bioagent detection.
