Large-scale Classification Analysis of Small-volume Samples by Laser-based Mass Spectrometry Profiling

Mass spectrometry (MS), in particular Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization (MALDI) MS, has been increasingly applied to a wide range of large-scale HTP analyses by a variety of analytical labs from clinical microbiology (biotyping/speciation) to general disease or environmental sample profiling. Our group has developed some of these aspects further, also with a view of simplifying sample preparation, using the simpler ‘Laser Desorption/Ionization (LDI)’ technique and robotic automation for MS analysis and sample classification, requiring only minute amounts of sample.
