Phenotypic Drug Profiling in Human Primary Cell Systems to Better Understand, Compare and Optimize Drugs

The BioMAP Phenotypic Profiling platform from DiscoverX is an in vitro method utilizing co-cultures of human primary cells, over 200 clinically relevant protein biomarker readouts and powerful bioinformatics. Compound effects on protein biomarkers in these assay systems are captured to generate phenotypic signatures to inform how drugs may behave in these settings. These activity profiles can be compared against a library of profiles of clinically validated and experimental compounds in the BioMAP reference database to analyse the mechanism of action and to identify activity signatures for efficacy and off-target activities that can be used to guide selection of compounds with a favorable efficacy and safety phenotype. The presentation introduces the BioMAP approach and highlights case studies for BioMAP applications such as the deconvolution of mechanism of action and the analysis of off-target activities.
