Microfluidics for the Biomedical and Industrial Applications
An-Bang Wang, Distinguished Professor, Institute of Applied Mechanics, National Taiwan University
Microfluidics could bring significant
advantages in the applications of chemical reaction, process control and
bio-medical detection. In the past years, we made different microfluidic
components in our lab, including micropump, microvalve, and micromixer etc.,
and also various functional systems, e.g., micro-multiphase flow/multi-emulsion
generators, high-throughput fluid/flow properties detection system, and the
maskless pattern coating system, etc. Recently, efforts have been extended to
the integrated microfluidic applications in the life science studies, clinical
diagnoses and special material production. Examples contain a
gravitation-driven sequential control lab-on-a-chip for biomedical
point-of-care testing, a new extremely material- and time-saving Western
blotting method for analytical chemistry and a microreactor system for
manufacturing highly valued materials with better yield and selectivity, like
quantum dots material.
