Sven Stegemann, Director, Capsugel
Hard capsules represent a traditional dosage form which is being used for pharmaceutical products due to their predictable performance and efficiency in manufacturing. Despite their wide application for inhalation and oral products, capsule technology has still not exploit its full potential. Through science and technology advancements, new polymer and polymer combination capsules and capsules have been developed and brought to the market to address the increasing demand for modern drug delivery. The different types of capsules provide specific functionality that serve as the basis for stratifying drug development and capsule selection based on the product requirements. This talk will review the different types and designs of the capsules, their characteristics and potential applications for generic, 505b2 as well as for NCE products.
