Universal Diagnostics for use at the Point of Care
Harshini Mukundan, Team Leader, Los Alamos National Laboratory
Our innate immune system is capable of universal diagnosis of all infection. Exploiting this in the laboratory can provide a strategy for diagnostics, and that is the driving hypothesis of our work. realizing this hypothesis, however, requires engineering solutions and ultra-sensitive sensors, comprehension of host-pathogen biology and designing tailored assay formats, and extensive clinical validation. Application of this approach towards development of universal diagnostics for bacterial infection, and its evaluation in pediatric samples will be presented.
