Two Adventures in Chemical Biology - Palladium Mediated Cellular Chemistry and in vivo Imaging
Mark Bradley, Professor of Therapeutic Innovation, Queen Mary University of London
My talk will be in two sections. Firstly I will discuss how Palladium mediated chemistry can be carried inside cells – to include the formation of both new C-C bonds but also the liberation of “caged” compounds. I will then describe the ability to use Pd to mediate chemistry in vivo. Secondly I will describe work that is being carried out in a collaboration with two clinicians (Professor Chris Haslett and Dr Kev Dhaliwal) in which fluorescent probes are being designed, synthesised and then applied in the molecular optical imaging of various lung based diseases .
