Piecing Together the 106+ Piece Human Body Puzzle: Towards Seamless, Multiscale Imaging and Mapping of Organ Systems, Organs and their Cellular Inhabitants
Melissa L Knothe Tate, Professor, University of New South Wales
As a feasibility study using the Google Maps API, we have pieced together two million nanometer resolution scanning electron microscopy images to create the first seamlessly zoomable 'map of the human hip'. In this talk I outline the technical aspects of the project as well as share our plans to provide Google Maps-like accessibility to massive datasets encompassing the exquisite engineering of the human ecosystem. Integration with cutting edge episcopic blockface imaging methods will enable unprecedented understanding of our organs' cellular inhabitants, as beacons and modulators of tissue and organ health.
