Abstract

Development of Oxidative Catalysis in Flow

Mimi Hii, Professor, Imperial College London

Catalytic flow chemistry employs the greater reaction space afforded by a flow reactor, to extend the limited application of heterogeneous catalysts for organic synthesis. The methodology works in harmony with the philosophy of green chemistry, particularly with respect to the reduction in energy usage, waste solvents, and increasing efficiency with effective mixing.

In this presentation, the development of heterogeneous catalyst systems for the atom-efficient oxidative transformations of alcohols to carbonyls, amines, esters and amides will be described. The use of both differential and integral reactors to achieve very high selectivity through the manipulation of temperature, stoichiometry and addition rates.
