Abstract



Capillary-Array Micro Analytical Devices as Mass-Producible Multi-Analyte Biosensing Tool

Capillary-array microanalytical devices capable of mass-production and multiple chemical sensing of different chemical species were developed. We have been working on the development of various functional capillary-based microanalytical devices. In this case, various analytical reagents are immobilized inside capillaries in various ways so that the simply introducing sample solution by capillary action allows for various spontaneous chemical reactions to give fluorescence response. Therefore, simply arraying various sensing capillaries developed for ions, enzyme activities, proteins, biologically important small molecules, and cutting the “thin-and-long” capillary-array into small pieces would allow us mass-production of easy-to-use and practically useful multiple chemical sensing “chips” for drug discovery research or clinical diagnosis. Here development of the glass capillary-type sensors and the multi analyte sensing devices by arraying these capillary sensors (Capillary-Assembled Microchip: CAs-CHIP) for multiple detection of biologically-important chemical species will be presented. Furthermore, novel capillary-type sensor array called, Combinable PDMS Capillary (CPC) sensor array, allowing single step analysis of enzyme inhibitor and multiple analysis of serum components for use in discrimination of abnormal serum from normal serum will be also presented.
