Understanding Plant Response under Climate Change: A Genomics Perspective

The speaker will discuss about my research on understanding the mechanism of adverse effects of climate change on Apple yield and quality using genomic approaches. His group’s research has identified key regulatory genes for chilling-mediated bud dormancy release in apple. Epigenetic regulation has also been shown to be crucial for plant response to climate change. Moreover, he will also discuss about my research on understanding the mechanism of differential Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) in two varieties of Brassica. Excessive use of Nitrogenous fertilizers in agricultural fields is responsible for ground water contamination and climate change. Key regulatory genes determining NUE in Brassica have been identified and cloned in his laboratory.
