SELECTBIO Conferences Extracellular Vesicles (EVs: Exosomes and Microvesicles): Research, Diagnostics and Therapeutics Applications

Abstract

Extracellular Vesicles: Potential for Treating Skin and Soft Tissue Injuries

John Ludlow, Executive Director, Zen Bio Inc

Several recent studies support the hypothesis that EVs containing exosomes can mediate the pro-healing effects of stem cells in different wound healing models. This presentation will review our recent progress in studying skin wound healing and soft tissue repair following application of EVs containing exosomes. Our data supports the notion that these vesicles downregulate the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and stimulate collagen production in cultures of primary human keratinocytes. In vivo studies revealed a more rapid time to wound-closure following topical application. In a rat tendon injury model, significant healing activity was demonstrated by EVs containing exosomes compared to vehicle alone. This information will be then placed in the context of potential therapeutic applications.
