Choosing the Right Cell-Based Assays for Drug Discovery

Drug discovery starts with the selection of validated targets followed by setting up of screening assays for evaluating compounds with the right potency, selectivity and drug-like properties.  Central to this screening cascade is the choice of the appropriate cellular assays in the flow scheme. This talk will cover the broad target classes and appropriate cellular assays for them, the value of phenotypic screening and the importance of establishing target engagement in primary cell types.  The advantages and caveats of cellular assays will also be discussed.
