Abstract

Nano-Extracellular Vesicles: True Perspectives in Therapy for Regenerative Medicine and Oncology

Unicyte AG is an independent subsidiary of Fresenius Medical Care KGaA, the world's largest provider of products and services for individuals with renal diseases. Unicyte runs pre-clinical programs on rare disorders, cancer, inflammatory and cardiovascular conditions in cooperation with Prof G.Camussi at the University of Torino, a leading scientist in the field of nano-extracellular vesicles. Unicyte is exploring the functional effects nEVs (exosomes and microvesicles) and the significance of interwoven complex mechanisms of action in a clear path to clinical translation with programs in oncology, regenerative medicine and cardiovascular indications. nEVs from various cell sources have shown to induce renal and vascular repair in acute and chronic kidney / vascular injury . More in particular, nEVs from human liver stem cells will be shown for their potential to inhibit tumor cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo. Unicyte will describe the true perspectives of nEVs as therapeutic agents and aims at solving the main hurdles and future challenges.
