Abstract

The latest dispensing technology for 3D-bioprinter

Naotoshi Ikushima, General Manager, Musashi Engineering Inc

With the approaching "IoT (Internet of Things)", advanced electronic devices are evolving into miniaturized, highly integrated, multi-functionalized systems. The latest packaging and assembly technologies are required for manufacturing these electronics, and automated precision dispensing technology is a critical component. MUSASHI ENGINEERING has responded to the demands of micro-volume and high-accuracy in this field by developing various dispensers using a multitude of technologies, such as as air pressure type, jet type and volumetric type. While the practical applications of 3D-bioprinting are being developed, the fields of Tissue Engineering and Additive Manufacturing continue to push the limits on performance expectations of liquid handling technologies. In this presentation, we will introduce one of the latest demands in dispensing technology for bioprinting, a "non-contact jet dispenser" that has received rapid interest in the field. In addition, we will discuss potential future directions in 3Dbioprinter equipment as predicted based on evaluations of demand for scaffolding materials, size, and accuracy.
