Stem Cell Organoids-on-a-Chip to Advance Future Medicine
Jianhua Qin, Professor, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences
Human organoids-on-a-chip systems are ideally suited for the development of assays in biological research, drug screening and precision medicine due to their capabilities to simulate higher level of tissue and organ physiology. In this talk, I will present our efforts and strategies to engineer hiPSCs derived stem cell organoids on a chip (et. brain, liver and islet) by combining microfluidics, stem cell biology, and biomaterials. then, I will introduce the utilities of these engineered human organoids systems for development biology studies, disease modeling and environmental toxin assessment. I will also discuss the challenges and potentials of these model systems for future medicine.
