Rajeshwari Ramanan's Biography

Rajeshwari Ramanan, Senior Principal Scientist, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology

Dr. Rajeshwari Ramanan is currently Senior Principal Scientist at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, India. She obtained her Bachelors and Masters in Botany from University of Delhi (1971-1976).Then she worked in ICRISAT as Research associate from 1976 till 1987 where she worked on groundnut viruses. Then she went on to do PhD (1987-1993) where I worked on molecular characterization of cytoplasmic male-sterile lines of pearl millet. Dr. Rajeshwari joined CCMB as Research associate from 1992 till 1997 and as Scientist in 1997 till date and have been involved in molecular genetic analysis of virulence functions of Xanthomonas oryzae, the causal agent of bacterial leaf blight of rice. Currently, the major focus of her lab is to characterize novel genes and alleles for important agronomic traits in rice using a functional genomics approach. She is the recipient of many Honors/Awards like All India Merit Scholarship (1974-1976), Panchanan Maheshwari Memorial Award for securing First rank in M.Sc., SRF from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Govt. of India (1988-1991), The Jawaharlal Nehru Award for outstanding Post-Graduate research in Agriculture (1994), She was Deputed to BBA, Braunschweig, Germany (1982), Scottish Crop Research Institute, Dundee, Scotland (1986-1987) and University of California, Davis (2004-2005). Dr. Rajeshwari has published 41 research papers in peer reviewed journals.
