Iain Lamont's Biography

Iain Lamont, Professor, University of Otago

Iain Lamont is a Professor in Biochemistry at the University of Otago in Dunedin. He completed his BSc (Hons) in Microbiology at the University of Edinburgh and a D Phil at the University of Oxford. After working at the University of Adelaide in Australia Iain moved to the University of Otago where he established a research programme investigating molecular biological aspects of pathogenic Pseudomonas species and in particular, how they are able to survive and grow during infection. A major focus of this programme has been the way in which Pseudomonas acquires iron, an essential nutrient. Iain is a past president of the New Zealand Microbiological Society and has received a number of awards for his research, including the premier research awards of both the New Zealand Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the New Zealand Microbiological Society.
