Michael J. O'Neill, Senior Research Advisor, Head of Neurodegeneration Group, Eli Lilly & Co

Dr. Michael J. O'Neill received a doctorate in pharmacology from University College in Galway, Ireland and later joined Eli Lilly & Co. where he has worked for over 19 years. O'Neill has worked with multiple teams and lead several efforts aimed at developing novel symptomatic and disease-modifying interventions for Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). He has acted as the overall scientific team leader for many, has also co-chaired a team with responsibility for a portfolio of neurodegenerative disease targets and been a key member of various steering and leadership committees. O’Neill is currently head of the Neurodegeneration Group at Lilly UK where he leads a team of 25-27 in vitro and in vivo scientists working on novel treatments for AD and PD. O’Neill has acted as industrial supervisor for 21 graduate students, 12 PhD students, presented over 50 invited presentations and various academic institutions or at scientific meetings. He has published more than 94 scientific articles and acted as a reviewer for multiple journals and grant bodies. He has also been an associate editor for the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.
