He is person of eminence with unique expertise and capabilities. As a Vice Chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Technical University, he has tried to bring in several scientific reforms into the technical education of the university and has transformed it into an ‘Innovation University’ and has led the university to a strong position today through his distinguished leadership. He is invited keynote speaker for several universities and institutes throughout the country. He is an author of many books, book chapters and has many publications to his credit.
Dr Khandal besides being an educationist and an academician is a researcher, a scientist, a technologist and an innovator. Dr. Khandal has demonstrated his excellence in all areas pertaining to science, technology and innovation. He has a complete understanding of 360 degree cycle of research and innovation. Finding out alternative systems, methods, procedures, products, processes, technologies are his key areas of interest. With a visionary approach towards creating innovative technologies and converting ideas into reality for value addition and value creation of technologies is something for which Dr Khandal is highly acknowledged. Developing the technologies from its concept stage to the stage of commercialization using novel approaches is the testimony of his being an innovator. He is known for developing several technologies using local resources to produce products of high quality meeting international standards. He has been successful in applying novel ways to resolve complex problems faced during various industrial processes. A few of his technical skills and competencies include: 1. Providing technology support to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in various business sectors such as food, renewable energy, healthcare, polymeric materials, etc. 2. Proficient in SWOT analysis and gap area identification for improvement and modification in products and processes. 3. Development of technologies for waste utilization and converting them into value-added products for societal growth and poverty alleviation 4. Development of materials and technologies including green technologies such as:smart materials for strategic and industrial applications 5. Analytical method development using most modern state-of-the-art techniques in the areas of food, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, environment, materials, etc. for characterization and determination of macro components, residues and contaminants at micro levels, impurity profile, structure elucidation etc. for ensuring food safety and quality 6. Development of radiation processing technologies for a) Shelf life enhancement of food products, b) polymer modification, c) value-addition of gems stones, d) sterilization of medical products, etc. 7. Critical evaluation of statistical data analysis for framing national and industrial policies and regulations. 8. Gauging the need for technical interventions required for resolving the issues impending growth of SMEs and MSMEs 9. Core competency in the areas such as development of entrepreneur, managing incubators, benchmarking winning technologies, assessing the impact of new policies, drawing plans for debottlenecking and finding opportunity out of challenges. 10. Facilitation for creating international collaborations with various universities and R&D organizations across the globe and being one of the consortium members for several multi-national projects including EU framework. 11. He has carried out substantial amount of work related to policy research, regulatory research and strategic research for various governmental agencies.
