Matthias Nees's Biography



Matthias Nees, Group Leader, University of Turku

Dr. Matthias Nees has obtained his PhD from the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg (DKFZ). Since then, he has held various positions in translational oncology, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Bethesda/USA, Heidelberg University Hospital, the EMBL, and at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Since 2011, he is affiliated as a group leader with the Centre for Biotechnology Turku in Finland. He currently coordinates the new High Content Screening Laboratory or HCSLab in Turku, as part of the Institute of Biomedicine, University of Turku/Finland.

In this talk, the goal of cell culture model system to address tumor/stroma will be presented. The application of High Content Screening approaches and automated image analysis software tools for identifying critical cell-cell-interactions and Phenotypic Drug discovery will also be covered. Further, complex organotypic assays will be discussed to understand may of the dynamic functions of living tissues in vitro.
