Tushar Chakraborty, Director, Central Drug Research Institute

Dr. Tushar Kanti Chakraborty, Director, CDRI, got his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1984 and after a brief postdoctoral stint at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, he joined the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology at Hyderabad in 1987 where he worked till December 2008. In December 2008, he took over the directorship of CDRI. He is the recipient of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the highest prize in science in India, in 2002. He is also elected Fellows of all the three Science Academies in India – Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India. He has received the prestigious JC Bose Fellowship and Ramanna Fellowship from DST, Government of India. He serves as member of the Editorial Boards of many journals and member of several national scientific committees. He visited many countries and delivered invited and plenary lectures in many national and international universities, symposia & conferences. Dr. Chakraborty specializes in Organic synthesis, peptides and petidomimetics, drugs discovery and development. He has published many papers and guided several students for Ph.D. He initiated the OSDD Chemistry program under the CSIR Flagship program, Open Source Drug Discovery and coordinates another flagship drug discovery program of the country, “Drugs from the Sea” under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
