Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Immunology from Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil. Specialist in human infectious and parasitic diseases, focusing on host genetics/genomics, immunoregulation and immunopathology of human parasitic and infectious diseases. We focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the differential clinical evolution of human diseases, particularly Chagas disease and leishmaniasis, two neglected tropical parasitic diseases caused by intracellular protozoans T. cruzi and Leishmania, respectively, as well as periodontal disease, a disease that affects forty percent of the world population. Currently a Full Professor of Cell Biology at Federal University of Minas Gerais and Deputy Director of Regulatory Affairs of the Brazilian NIH Alumni Association (NIHAABRA).
