Dipankar Bandyopadhyay's Biography

Dipankar Bandyopadhyay, Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati

Dr. Dipankar Bandyopadhyay is a B. Sc in Chemistry and B. Tech in Chemical Engineering from Calcutta University. After completion of M. Tech from the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Kanpur, he joined as CFD Engineer in Fluent India Private Limited. He has 3 years of industrial exposure on the numerical modeling of various types of fluid flows. He was involved in a variety of support and consultancy projects which includes modeling of multi-species mixing, single and multiphase flows, high and low speed flows at different length scales, microfluidics, reaction engineering and external aerodynamics. Thereafter, he joined at IIT Kanpur as a research scholar to pursue his PhD where he worked on the stability and dynamics of thin viscoelastic films. This research work uncovered many interesting features of the bilayer instabilities, which can be useful in the study of the deformations of nano- or micro-membranes (e.g. cell membrane), self-organized pattern formations and in the fabrication of micro/nano fluidic devices. PresentlyFor past 4 years he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and in the Centre for Nanotechnology at IIT Guwahati. He is also visiting faculty at Yeungnam Univerisity at South Korea. He has authored more than 40 research papers and some of them are in the top 10 % of the international journals
