Kuberan Balagurunathan, Professor, University of Utah Health Sciences Center

Dr Kuberan (Kuby) Balagurunathan, received his BSc in Chemistry from St. Joseph’s College (Trichy), MSc from the Indian Institute of Technology (Madras) and PhD from the University of Iowa. After completing his postdoctoral training at MIT Biology, Kuby began, in 2004, his independent academic career at The University of Utah where he is currently a tenured Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Adjunct Professor of Biology. His research program has been supported by various funding agencies including HFSP, AHA, Mizutani Foundation for Glycoscience and NIH/NHLBI sponsored Programs of Excellence in Glycosciences. He has been the primary advisor to 25 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and 23 undergraduate researchers. He served as guest co-editor of Methods in Molecular Biology (Volume 1229; Glycosaminoglycans - Chemistry & Biology) together with Professors Hiroshi Nakato and Umesh R. Desai. Dr Balagurunathan has co-authored 64 manuscripts including research articles, reviews and protocols and was co-inventor on 7 patents.
