Dr. Arnab Kapat is currently the Director of Reliance Institute of Life Sciences. It is an autonomous institution for higher education established and funded by Reliance Life Sciences (a Reliance Group company). He is also Vice President and Head of Peptide Therapeutics initiative in Reliance Life Sciences. He has been with Reliance Life Sciences since January 2003 and has worked in various capacities in the past. He was instrumental in creating process development laboratory, scale up and manufacturing facilities for biopharmaceutical business. Dr. Kapat worked as lead process development scientist in Novartis Vaccines (formerly Chiron Vaccines) in Siena, Italy before joining Reliance Life Sciences. He pursued postdoctoral research in University of Helsinki, Finland after graduating with a Ph.D. degree in biochemical engineering and biotechnology from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. He carried out pre-doctoral research in Agriculture Research Organization in Bet Dagan, Israel. He received a Master’s in Technology degree in Biotechnology and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India. Dr. Kapat is an elected senior member of American Institute of Chemical Engineers and an elected member of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, USA. He holds international membership in Asian Federation of Biotechnology, European Federation of Biotechnology, International Society of Automation, International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering, and New York Academy of Sciences. He is a member of national task force in bioengineering, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and a member of national task force in skill development (bio/pharmaceuticals sector), Confederation of Indian Industries.
