Hirak Basu's Biography

Hirak Basu, Associate Professor, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

Dr.Hirak Basu is Associate Professor in the Genitourinary Oncology Department of University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX.Previously, he was Associate Director, S’LIL Biomedical Corp., Madison, WI and also a co-founder of Colby Pharmaceutical Company, Menlo Park, CA. He translated three anti-cancer agents from bench-to-bedside. He is the key investigator, who discovered a role of metabolic stress in cancer progression. He has over fifty peer-reviewed research articles and was a member of the Editorial Board of “Journal of Biological Systems”. He is Principal Investigator of several National Cancer Institute and Department of Defense funded research grants as well as Merck Pharmaceutical Company funded grant in prostate cancer diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutics. He is a Standing Member and Co-Chair of a NIH SBIR Scientific Review group, Member of several other NCI Scientific Review Committees as well as Member and Chair of several Department of Defense Grant Review Committees.
