Rajkumar Berwal, Principal Investigator, Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences - RAJUVAS

Dr Rajkumar Berwal, Assistant Professor-cum- Principal Investigator completed his B.V.Sc. & A.H. (1992) and M.V.Sc. (1995) from CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. He completed his PhD in Livestock Products Technology as an in-service candidate from Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS),Hisar (Haryana). He has more than 22 years experience in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Teaching, Research and Extension in the area of Livestock Products Technology. He worked as Senior Veterinary Officer ( Deptt. of Animal Husbandry, (Rajasthan Govt.) and Assistant Professor at Postgraduate Institute of Veterinary Education and Research (PGIVER) Jaipur. There, he has hold various responsibilities as Academic Co-ordinator Of AHDP, UG, PG and PhD programme and In-charge of Department of Livestock Products Technology and Department. Of Veterinary Public Health. Presently he is working as Asstt. Professor in the Department of Livestock Products Technology and Principal Investigator of State govt. funded project “ Centre for Organic Animal Products Technology” in the College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences – Bikaner. He has filled three Indian Patents from his original research to IPR – New Delhi through National Research Development Co-orporation (NRDC) – New Delhi.
He is a life member of different professional societies like Indian Meat Science Association (IMSA). Indian Veterinary Council and Rajasthan Veterinary Council. He is member of Editorial Team in several Indian Journals and International Journals
He has published more than 32 original research papers, 2 manuals, 2 book chapters. He is main author of text book ‘Processing of Chicken - Basic tools... A way to entrepreneurship’ ISBN no. 978-93-83147-40-3. He has published 2 booklets and articles for the benefit of the farmers, scientists and entrepreneurs. . He has delivered more than 30 lecture-cum-practical demonstrations and 14 invited lectures at different trainings, workshops and seminars.He has delivered 8 radio talks and TV talks on various issues related with Animal Husbandry and livestock products. and published more than 30 abstracts. He has handled research projects as Principal Investigator funded by Rajasthan State Government under state plan.

Research interest

His major research contribution is in the area of value addition of food products, Convenient and ready to eat foods, fermented meat products, Dry / Semi dry meat products, Convenient and value added poultry and meat products, functional milk and meat products, hurdle technology based meat products, extended shelf life milk and meat products using natural antioxidants, edible bioactive packaging, vacuum packaging and modified atmosphere packaging.
