Ben Tehan's Biography



Ben Tehan, Senior Computational Chemist, Heptares Therapeutics

Benjamin Tehan completed a PhD in Computational/Medicinal Chemistry at the Victorian College of Pharmacy, Monash University, which included a three month sabbatical in Cambridge at Celltech Pharmaceuticals. He then worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a year before working briefly for the Victorian Infectious Disease Research Laboratories (VIDRL). Benjamin then spent almost the next 7 years as part of the 7TM group within the computational chemistry department of GlaxoSmithKline, Harlow, primarily supporting the Pain and Neuroscience CEDDs. In 2009 Benjamin left GSK and moved to Heptares Therapeutics, to continue his love affair with 7TMs, where he is a program leader and senior computational chemist.

Through the generation and utilisation of OX1 and OX2 StaRs® we have been able to rapidly progress a dual orexin receptor antagonist (DORA) series to a pre-clinical candidate. The structures have also highlighted the unique and differing basis for varied Orexin chemotypes’ selectivity.
