Olivier Pertz's Biography

Olivier Pertz, Professor, University Of Basel

After a PhD thesis at the Biozentrum Basel, and post-docs at the Scripps research Institute and the University California San Diego, Olivier Pertz is an assistant professor at the department of Biomedicine, University of Basel. Current work in the lab consists in studying spatio-temporal signaling mechanisms during cell migration and neurite outgrowth using a combination of multidisciplinary approaches (live cell imaging, large scale proteomics, microfabrication to manipulate single cells, and computer vision approaches for automated imaging analysis).

We report on a high content imaging platform that allows the study of neurite outgrowth dynamics in response to a large amount of perturbations. A computer vision approach extracts a large number of features that describe neurite morphodynamics. Statistical analysis allows to identify relevant phenotypic features that are pertinent to each molecular perturbation. Understanding neurite morphodynamics might enable a much more precise understanding of this complex process.
