Aleksandr Ovsianikov's Biography

Aleksandr Ovsianikov, Assistant Professor, Vienna University of Technology

Aleksandr Ovsianikov is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Materials Science and Technology of the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien, Austria).
He completed a PhD at the Nanotechnology Department of the Laser Zentrum Hannover, and the University of Hannover (Germany).
Starting 2010 Dr. Ovsianikov is working at the Additive Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) group of the TU Wien, which is a successful long-term cooperation between the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry and the Institute of Material Science and Technology. Herewith, the AMT team consists of mechanical engineers, materials scientists and chemists.
The group aims at covering the complete process chain from the development of specialized photopolymers and photoinitiators, to design and configuration of additive manufacturing systems, and characterization of the obtained parts. The primary research domain of Dr. Ovsianikov is processing of biomaterials by photopolymerization-based AMTs.
His research interests include microfabrication / laser-induced photo-chemistry, photografting / biofunctionalization, biocompatible / biodegradable photopolymers, scaffold based tissue engineering and three-dimensional tissue models.

Recently Dr. Ovsianikov was awarded a prestigious Starting Grant by the European Research Council (ERC) for a project aimed at the development of biomedical and tissue engineering applications of multi-photon processing.
Since 2004 he contributed to over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 5 book chapters, harvesting over a 1000 citations.
