Beate Neumann's Biography

Beate Neumann, Senior Scientific Officer, European Molecular Biology Laboratory

Dr. Beate Neumann is currently coordinating high-throughput RNAi screens at the Advanced Light Microscopy Facility (ALMF), EMBL. The facility supports scientists on siRNA design, assay development, image acquisition, and image analysis. She joined EMBL already in 2004 establishing high-throughput live cell imaging assays allowing her to perform a genome-wide RNAi screen in live HeLa cells using time-lapse microscopy to identify genes playing a role in mitosis. From 2000 to 2003 she was a group leader at Cenix BioScience GMBH, Dresden working on the development of cell based assays using RNA interference and on a genome-wide RNAi screen in C. elegans using time-lapse microscopy in living embryos.

We developed a screening pipeline allowing the performance of microscopy based high-throughput RNAi screens in living cells. These live cell experiments are performed on RNAi microarrays or siRNA-coated plates.
