Amee George,
Research Officer,
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
Dr Amee George obtained her PhD in 2007 from the University of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. Early on in her career, Dr George developed a keen interest in the use of functional genomics-based approaches to investigate the molecular basis of disease. She recently completed her first postdoctoral appointment at the University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia) and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (PMCC, Melbourne, Australia) investigating the molecular mechanism(s) underlying angiotensin II-mediated EGFR transactivation and its role in cellular growth. Using siRNA-based screening approaches available through the Victorian Centre for Functional Genomics (VCFG) at the PMCC, her work identified a number of novel candidates that modulate the transactivation response.
Dr George recently began her second postdoctoral appointment at the PMCC to investigate how perturbations in ribosome biogenesis lead to the activation of the nucleolar stress response. She has just completed two genome-wide high-content siRNA screens in this area and is currently investigating a number of the novel candidates identified in these screens in further detail.
