Jean-Manuel Segura, Professor, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland Valais

Jean-Manuel Segura is professor of chemistry at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland since 2008. He graduated in 1995 from EPF Lausanne in chemical engineering and obtained his Ph.D. in 2000 from ETH Zürich in physical chemistry followed by post-doctoral and group leader positions at Leiden University, at EPFL and at the Ludwig Institute, His current research interests include the development of novel integrated point-of-care in-vitro diagnostics assays, the exploration of novel “smart” sensor molecules such as fluorescent aptamers or supramolecular biosensors as well as the application of nano-particules for immunoassays.

The talk will present our recent results towards the development a point-of-care device for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring. In particular, an assay enabling the quantification of small drugs in whole blood using paper-like microchambers for filtering and measurement will be discussed.
