Moritz Schmelzle,

Dr. Moritz Schmelzle is a surgeon and physician scientist at the University of Leipzig. He earned a Doctor of Medicine in 2005 from the Technical University of Munich, Germany and his MD Thesis (Dr. med.) in 2008 on mechanisms involved in ischemia and reperfusion injury from the University of Greifswald, Germany. Dr. Schmelzle passed the Board Licence Examination in Visceral Surgery in 2013 and focuses clinically on hepatobiliary and transplantation surgery. Dr. Schmelzle was a research associate with Prof. Simon C. Robson at Harvard University, Boston, USA from 2009 to 2011. In 2014 he earned the Postdoctoral Lecture Qualification (Habilitation, Ph.D. equivalent) on stem cell mediated liver regeneration from the University of Leipzig. In 2012 Dr. Schmelzle was named a group leader (Excellence Award) at the Translational Centre for Regenerative Medicine (TRM), University of Leipzig. He received multiple prices, honours and funding amongst others by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
