Hans-Michael Tautenhahn, Invesitgator, TRM Leipzig

Dr. Tautenhahn medical consultant education focuses on various liver diseases and especially liver surgery as well as liver transplantation. He finished his graduation in special visceral and transplantation surgery in 2013 and is a dedicated surgeon in the University Clinic of Leipzig in time. Inspired by bedside issues he started scientific collaboration with the Molecular Hepatology group (Prof. Christ) to find a solution on the bench side. He started working at the University Clinic of Leipzig in 2007. In 2013 he finished his MD Thesis (Dr. med.) also regarding a basic science project with an excellent grading (summa cum laude). The outstanding scientific efforts were honored by a young investigator award. Since 2012 he is founded by the BMBF as a group leader in the TRM CELT and focused on mesenchymal stem cell therapy preventing acute postoperative liver failure (POLF). Dr. Tautenhahn multiple publications in his clinical and basic science provide access to lot of national and international congresses as an invited speaker.

After extended liver resection, postoperative liver failure (POLF) is a serious problem with high mortality. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) improved liver regeneration by decreasing apoptosis and increasing proliferation of hepatocytes in the residual liver.
