Christopher Schofield, Group Leader/Investigator, GlaxoSmithKline

Research scientist specialising in cell/tissue culture. 20 years experience in the provision of biological reagents for the use in small molecule screening in drug discovery. Extensive practical knowledge in many eukaryotic protein expression systems and mammalian cell culture techniques. Expert knowledge in cryopreservation, cell line scale up, baculovirus expression, assay ready frozen cells. Experience with stem cell culture. Most recent experience is with isolation and preservation of mitochondria from mamalian cells and precision cut tissue slices.

This talk will describe how we are using 3D spheroids and microtissue methods to investigate hepatotoxicity. How they compare to current 2D models and how we can move forward to improved screening of compounds.
