Christopher Hone's Biography

Christopher Hone, Research Scholar, University of Leeds

Christopher Hone completed a PhD at the Institute of Process Research and Development (iPRD) at the University of Leeds, and Chris is working under the supervision of Prof Frans Muller, Dr Richard Bourne and Prof Steve Marsden. The Institute is a joint initiative between the School of Chemistry and School of Chemical Engineering. Chris’s PhD was co-sponsored by AstraZeneca, and he spent time working in the continuous processing group at their Global Development site in Macclesfield, UK. His PhD focused on developing approaches to support continuous-flow scale-up. Chris’s academic studies began at the University of Southampton studying a degree in chemistry. He also worked in the Robotic Discovery Chemistry Group at Syngenta’s Jealott’s Hill site in Bracknell. Chris started a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Graz in January 2016, working under the supervision of Prof C Oliver Kappe.

In this paper we present a robust scale-up workflow for the development of flow processes. The approach cycles through evolution of the system’s kinetic motif and the generation of additional experimental data. The scope of the approach is demonstrated on reaction case studies.
