Ranjan Ganguly's Biography



Ranjan Ganguly, Associate Professor, Jadavpur University

Dr. Ranjan Ganguly is an Associate Professor in the Power Engineering Department of Jadavpur University, India. Dr. Ganguly did his undergraduate degree in Power Plant Engineering and Masters in Mechanical Engineering, both from Jadavpur University, India. He received PhD from University of Illinois at Chicago(UIC) in 2005. He also had postdoctoral research stints at University of Hannover, T.U. Darmstadt, Virginia Tech, and more recently at UIC. Dr. Ganguly is a recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for postdoctoral research in Germany (2008-09), the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) Young Engineer Award (2008), BRNS Young Scientist Research Award of the Department of Atomic Energy (2006), Dean's Scholar Award and Provosts Award for Graduate Research at UIC (2004). His research encompasses transport of magnetic nano-and micro particles for MEMS and biomedical applications, wettability engineering for surface microfluidics and phase change heat transfer, thermal transport phenomena and modeling of energy systems. Dr. Ganguly has authored 60 international journal publications, a book chapter, and over 50 conference papers. He is also served as a reviewer for several international journals like Physics of Fluids, Microfluidics and Nanofluidics, Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, Energy, etc.

In this presentation a facile technique of creating wettability-patterned disposable substrates will be discussed; pumpless liquid handling strategies on these are demonstrated at proof-of-concept level, providing a viable technique of sample handling on surface microfluidic platforms.
