This talk will discuss about logjam over the approval of field trials for new genetically modified (GM) crops in India due to several biosafety, and environmental risks associated with GM organisms which makes ecological risk assessment of GM crops for mass commercial cultivation and the potential impact of its escape into the natural environment as significant concerns. Thereafter, it will mention about many GMOs regulatory aspects, which are essential to be addressed for the biosafety of GM crops and to mitigate the hypothetical risk of GM crops, or transgene escapes to the natural ecosystem.
