Fred Levine, Professor, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute

Dr. Fred Levine is Professor at the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute in La Jolla, California. Professor Levine received his BA at Harvard University followed by MD and PhD degrees at the University of Washington. Currently, Professor Levine is Professor and Director, Sanford Children’s Health Research Center, Burnham Institute for Medical Research.

ß-cell dysfunction and deficiency is a major factor in both type I and type II diabetes. Approaches to ß-cell replacement will be discussed, including by generating ß-cells ex vivo followed by transplantation, and stimulation of endogenous ß-cell regeneration.
