V Arunachalam's Biography



V Arunachalam, Principal Scientist, Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute

Dr V Arunachalam obtained his MSc and PhD from IARI Pusa New Delhi. He has availed DBT-postdoctoral fellowship with Dr KK Sharma at ICRISAT Patancheru. He served ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute at Kasaragod Kerala India as Scientist and Senior Scientist levels. His associate role in coconut improvement programs led to release of 3 coconut cultivars and 2 genetic stocks of coconut and also recognised by ICAR team award. He conserved 74 plant germplasm accessions of four crops in National Gene Bank. He wrote a book on genomics of palms. He is currently serving as Principal Scientist Horticulture, Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute Old Goa. He is one among the 45 top innovators by DST-FICCI India Innovation growth program in 2014 for DNA marker discovery software. He has served as Associate Editor (Agriculture) Versita, Poland. He has received fellowship from DBT and NAIP to attend postdoctoral research and training programs.

DNA bands targeting salt tolerance associated marker region in the banana genome were sequenced. One of the sequences matched with phenolic glucoside malonyl-transferase 2-like gene located on chromosome 4.
