Daniel Chen's Biography



Daniel Chen, Professor, University of Saskatchewan

Dr. Chen is a Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Division of Biomedical Engineering, University of Saskatchewan (UofS), Canada. Prior to his appointment with the UofS in 2003, he received his PhD from the UofS and his Post-Doctorate training with Queen's University, Canada. During his career, he has conducted research in the interdisciplinary areas of bio-fabrication of scaffolds to replace/repair damaged tissues or organs, and mechatronics to model and control complex systems for improved performance. Dr. Chen is the recipient of a 2016 “Achievement Award” from the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation. Dr. Chen is the Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (FASME), Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering (FCSME), and Engineering Institute of Canada (FEIC).

The speaker will report his group’s recent work and achievements 3D bioprinting scaffolds for various tissue engineering applications, including the repair of peripheral nerve injuries, spinal cord injuries, articular cartilage, and myocardial infarction.
