Tessy Thomas Maliekal, Scientist, Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology

Dr Maliekal completed her Ph.D in Biotechnology in 2002 from Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology.Following this,she held the position of Research Associate at Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram till 2004 & Research Associate at National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore (2004-2005). She was FAST TRACK young Scientist, National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore (2005-2008) & Visiting Fellow, National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore (2008-2010). She is the recipient of many awards and fellowships i.e DST FAST TRACK Award (2005) and Indo-French Scientific Co-operation Programme (2008).Dr Maliekal's lab is interested in understanding the oral cancer stem cell biology and its relevance in oral cancer recurrence after chemotherapy. Further, her lab is trying to develop new detection methods for oral cancer. Developing animal models for studying the oral cancer biology is also one of her interests.
