Roopali Roy's Biography

Roopali Roy, Research Scientist, Boston Children’s Hospital; Instructor, Harvard Medical School

Dr Roopali Roy, Ph. D., is a member of the Moses’ Laboratory in the Vascular Biology Program at Boston Children’s Hospital and an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Roy is a biochemist whose expertise encompasses both basic and translational research in cancer. Her work utilizes cutting edge proteomic techniques for the discovery of urinary proteins that can potentially serve as non-invasive biomarkers for breast, pancreatic and prostate tumors as well as rigorous validation of these biomarkers in order to develop diagnostic and prognostic tests for these cancers. In addition, her basic research interests lie in elucidating the mechanism by which ADAM (disintegrin and metalloprotease) proteins regulate tumorigenesis from tumor initiation to progression and metastasis. Dr. Roy’s work has shown that ADAM12 plays a key role in breast tumor progression, tumor angiogenesis, chemoresistance and metastasis promotion. Her current research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms that drive tumor progression and metastasis and to utilize this information to identify novel targets that could be translated into better therapeutics and diagnostics for these deadly malignancies.
