Riccardo Di Guida's Biography

Riccardo Di Guida, PhD Student, University of Birmingham

Riccardo Di Guida obtained his BSc at the University of Perugia, Italy (2008-2011) in chemistry and his MSc at the same university (2011-2013) in organic chemistry with a final year project focused on metabolic clearance and lipidomics. From 2013 he is a PhD student at the University of Birmingham (UK) being awarded with a MRC scholarship dedicated to the metabolic study of the role of glucocorticoids in humans. His field of interest ranges from UPLC-MS techniques applied to untargeted metabolomics to computational assessments of pre-processing methods in metabolomics to analytical development in order to cope with small volume samples. He is also collaborating with Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Birmingham, UK) performing several clinical metabolomics studies.

The role of glucocorticoids in human metabolism is still unclear. Two untargeted UPLC-MS metabolomics studies were performed on human serum in order to assess the effects of glucocorticoids administration and their interaction with insulin.
